Call to Order and Roll Call

  • The meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. by Chairman Tiffany King.
  • A quorum was confirmed.

Approval of Minutes (September 13, 2022)

  • Motion to approve the minutes was made by Board Member Patterson.
  • Seconded by Board Member Dennis.
  • Vote:

    • Nays: None
  • Motion carried unanimously.

Celebrate Fate

  • Presentation given by Spencer Foster, Assistant to City Manager.
  • Topics presented:
    • Attendance estimated between 5,000 and 7,000.
    • Positive feedback from sponsors, vendors, and participants regarding:
      • Load-in, setup, and organization
      • Variety of vendors and activities
      • Band
      • Fireworks
    • Areas identified for improvement:
      • Parking
      • Robert Smith Family Park
      • Additional food vendors
      • Separation of non-profit and for-profit vendors
  • Board discussion topics included:
    • Separating non-profit vendors from for-profit vendors
    • Whether a survey had been conducted the prior year
    • Designating a picnic area for a future event

Fate Station Park

  • Presentation given by Spencer Foster, Assistant to City Manager.
  • Topics presented:
    • Playground purchase approved by City Council in August
    • Purchase order to Kraftsman for equipment signed
    • Grant accepted by City Council on September 19, 2022
    • Construction on surrounding properties in progress

Joe Burger Park and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

  • Presentation given by Steve Gilbert, Director of Community Services and Building Safety.
  • Topics presented:
    • Tennis court fencing and surfacing in progress
    • Basketball court surfacing being finalized
    • Bathroom installed
    • Irrigation installed
    • Landscaping installed, including planting of a Clifford Haney memorial tree
    • Play structure completed, surfacing installed, and safety audit completed
    • Park completion targeted for the end of October
    • Ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for November 12, 2022
  • Board discussion topics included:
    • Memorial tree dedication area
    • Whether signage would be installed for the Clifford Haney memorial tree
    • Installation of a City of Fate dedication plaque
    • Light refreshments and music for the ceremony

Park Master Plan

  • Presentation given by Steve Gilbert, Director of Community Services and Building Safety.
  • Topics presented:
    • Draft Parks Master Plan sent to the Advisory Board on September 29, 2022
    • Request for board thoughts, comments, questions, and suggestions
    • Plan scheduled for presentation to City Council on October 17, 2022
  • Board discussion topics included:
    • Displaying park maps and age groups on the city website
    • Including age recommendations with park images on the website
    • Future development locations and selection criteria
  • Motion to recommend City Council approval of the Parks Master Plan as presented:
    • Moved by Chairman King
    • Seconded by Board Member Dennis

    • Nays: None
  • Motion carried unanimously.

Christmas Tree Lighting

  • Presentation given by Spencer Foster, Assistant to City Manager.
  • Topics presented:
    • Event scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    • Planned activities:
      • Pictures with Santa
      • Cocoa and cookies
      • Choir performances
      • Train rides
      • Story time
      • Light show
      • Children’s activities
      • Yule Log
      • Free In-N-Out
    • Seven sponsors identified, totaling $5,000
  • Board discussion topics included:
    • Selection of Santa
    • Possibility of a hayride
    • Budget allocation for the event
